A gas leak that lead to an explosion displacing dozens in Oak Cliff
On May 28th a gas leak at an apartment complex in Oak Cliff displaced over 80 people from their homes. 3 people including two women and 1 child died in the fire.
Since day one, Dallas For Change has been boots on the ground working directly alongside community partners including Mission Oak Cliff, Austin Street Shelter, and the City of Dallas.
Many of the people displaced are working class families who cannot afford to be displaced. many are on fixed incomes and leaving their homes means a potential displacement from the neighhborhoods they’ve helped to build.
Emergency response is a key part in keeping our communities safe and through our network of volunteers and partner organizations, we are always ready to respond in a thoughful and direct way.
There is still plenty to do to help the people that have been affected by this gas leak and explosion. 3 apartment complexes were impacted due to this fire, and the tenants of The Bonnie remain in their apartments without access to gas. For three weeks they have lived in limbo, not knowing whether they will ever be able to live in the apartments many of them have called home for decades.

During the times of the Cold War, Washington's fear of communist expansionism led to a policy of containment, resulting in interventions and support for anti-communist, right wing, dictatorships, often with little regard for democratic principles.
